Welcome to
Piece of My Art Workshop
Piece of My Art Workshop has been a creative haven for kids, teens and adults since 2004. Jennifer Dorgan began the workshop in August of 2004 when she saw an overwhelming interest in the community for artistic instruction while she helped run the former gallery/frame shop on Main Street. Academics became more the focus in schools, and the time for kids to explore their creativity and artistic expression within the school day became less. Jennifer noticed that people of all ages were looking to find relaxing, rewarding hobbies, improve their own artistic skills and to learn new skills. That’s when she opened up the Workshop for kids and adults ages 7 and up.
Since the Workshop opened, a steady stream of kids, teens, and adults have made it their fun, creative spot to let loose and enjoy their own artistic expression. All students are encouraged to choose their own subject matter with pictures or photos and Jennifer helps them to paint or draw what they see. Class sizes are purposely small so that everyone can get the attention they need. Jennifer’s main goal in teaching is to de-mystify the craft of painting and to show, for example, how easy it is to conjure up an entire forest in a few minutes! While the focus is painting, much is learned about drawing through each painting. Landscapes can be incredibly simple and successful, therefore are highly encouraged when beginning, to build confidence. She works with each person individually at their own pace within a very relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Some students choose to only focus on drawing and bring in their drawing supplies and photos or use the studio's photos to draw from during any workshop with Jennifer's assistance. There is only one drawing class on Saturday AM's, but that doesn't mean that individuals cannot draw, instead of paint, during any workshop during the week. Everyone is encouraged to persue their own passions in their art and she's always there to give the guidance and structure needed to achieve their goals successfully.
NEW STUDIO OPEN at 35 Crown Street!
In July 2009, Jennifer moved her studio to 24 Elm Street downstairs (next door to Fast Feet). There she continues to teach her workshops and also the workshops for the Westfield Parks and Recreation Department in the summer.
In 2012, Jennifer opened her private studio at 35 Crown Street for working on her large fiberglass statues for surrounding towns and to teach some of her smaller adult classes.
**New pictures coming soon of Jennifer's new 7 foot high sea turtle statue that she's painting for Breast Cancer Awareness to be displayed in Panama City, Florida this summer!
